TECHNICAL COMMITTEE SUBMITS STRATEGIC ENERGY AGENDA ROADMAP TO OYEBAMIJI; OUTLINES BLUEPRINT FOR OSUN TO BECOME NET ELECTRICITY EXPORTER

The Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun State APC Governorship Campaign Council is pleased to announce that the Technical Committee on Energy has officially submitted its final report and implementation roadmap on the state's strategic energy agenda to the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
It would be recalled that six months ago, the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council unveiled a comprehensive Strategic Energy Agenda for Osun State titled "Powering Osun's Future."
This agenda serves as an actionable, implementable, and technically credible framework designed to guide energy governance and drive sustainable electricity development.
AMBO commissioned this specialized technical committee after it was discovered that Osun is the only state in South-West Nigeria completely lacking a formal roadmap for electricity generation and distribution.
The legal foundation for state-led power initiatives was laid on March 17, 2023, when former President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Fifth Alteration to the 1999 Constitution, removing electricity from the Exclusive Legislative List.
This constitutional shift was further strengthened on June 9, 2023, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assented to the Electricity Act 2023, empowering states to independently legislate, regulate, and manage their electricity markets across the entire value chain.
Regrettably, Osun remains the only state in the South-West that has yet to take any tangible steps to fully domesticate and implement the Electricity Act 2023. This inaction persists despite Osun's unique strategic advantages.
The state proudly hosts the National Control Centre (NCC) of the national grid in Osogbo, serving as a major transmission hub for the region. Furthermore, Osun boasts exceptional solar radiation, viable hydro resources at Owala, Osun, Ila, and Erin-Ijesa, alongside a rapidly growing mining and agro-industrial economy that continues to drive energy demand.
Delivering the roadmap in line with AMBO's manifesto commitments to electricity access and rapid industrialization, the Technical Committee firmly established that Osun possesses the inherent capacity to become a net exporter of electricity.
The blueprint highlights a strategic combination of small hydro projects, thermal (Gas) plants, renewable power generation, and the aggressive utilization of the state's existing transmission infrastructure.
To ensure seamless execution, the committee presented a phased development structure divided into: short-term plans: Immediate regulatory frameworks and quick-win captive power options, medium-term plans: mid-scale renewable integration and grid expansion and long-term plans: large-scale generation projects targeting regional power exportation.
The APC Governorship Campaign Council firmly assures the good people of Osun State that the All Progressives Congress remains unyielding in its commitment to delivering reliable electricity and accelerated industrial growth.
Upon AMBO's inauguration as Executive Governor, a well-structured Integrated Resource Plan and a sustainable power delivery architecture will immediately be activated.
This will unlock Osun’s vast energy potentials, power local businesses, and drive the economic transformation of our beloved state.
Signed
