Fake ALGON Chairman: Sarafadeen Awotunde's Illegitimate Claim Exposed.

The attention of the accredited and authentic leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, has been drawn to a press statement issued by one Sarafadeen Awotunde, who continues to falsely present himself as ALGON Chairman of OSUN State.  We consider it necessary to address each of his misleading and unlawful statements to set the record straight for the general public and relevant authorities.

The claim that local government chairmen elected under the PDP are having challenges in opening LG accounts and placing the burden in the door step of CBN Osogbo is a false narrative pushed by Awotunde and his cohors. The individual in question was never elected through any neat and generally acceptable election process. He lacks the constitutional mandate or recognition of the national body of ALGON to speak or act on behalf or in the name of the association. His call for the intervention of President Tinubu and the CBN Governor is a funny and desperate attempt to lend credibility to an illegitimate claim.

The allegation that the CBN Controller issued account forms to “impostors” is laughable and ironic—considering that Sarafadeen Awotunde himself is the real impostor. The persons he refers to as impostors are in fact the legally elected council chairmen, as confirmed by the law as stated in the Akure Appeal Court judgment of 10/02/2025. . Any step taken by the CBN was based on proper documentation, legal backing, and institutional integrity—not political sympathy.

The press briefing staged at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is just another media show with no legal and moral weight. The  threats being exhibited against CBN staff and others in the press briefing is a demonstration of immaturity and lack of political education. He doesn't know that nobody can fight the Law because the Law is an instrument of punishment for every individual who breaks the Law of the Land.   Awotunde’s claim to chairmanship has no judicial backing , and no recognition from the National ALGON body. His persistent attempt to mislead the public amounts to impersonation, which is a punishable offense under Nigerian law.

His tale of being locked out of the Osogbo CBN branch reflects the reality of his illegitimacy. The CBN, bound by law and policy, cannot engage with unauthorized persons. If he and his group were denied access, it might be because they do not have any legal authority to carry out the process they claimed to have initiated. The real chairmen, elected through a lawful process, have every right to be attended to by the CBN any time they approach them.

It is unfortunate that Mr. Awotunde would go as far as asking for the transfer of a federal officer who is simply doing her job with professionalism. This is clearly an attempt to bully and blackmail a public servant into compromising her responsibilities. If anyone should be investigated and removed, it is the impostor trying to manipulate institutions for political gain.

Dragging the name of President Tinubu into this baseless and needless drama is disingenuous. Mr. President has demonstrated commitment to the rule of law and non-interference in judicial matters. Awotunde’s attempt to use the President’s name as a cover for his illegitimacy is insulting and unacceptable.

Advising others to accept defeat when he has refused to do the same is the height of hypocrisy. The only court-recognized chairmen in Osun State are those whose elections were validated by the judgement of 10/02/25 by the Akure Appeal Court—not Awotunde’s camp. His refusal to step aside despite legal defeat is what continues to fuel tension in the local government system.

The final threats and inflammatory statements in his address are well noted, forgetting that nobody has a monopoly of violence. The Law will take adequate charge of Lawless people of this type. While the real ALGON leadership has continued to maintain peace, order and Law abiding, Awotunde’s utterances pose a direct threat to public peace. Security agencies are hereby put on alert to monitor his actions and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Let it be clear to the people of Osun State, the CBN, and all relevant authorities that Mr. Sarafadeen Awotunde is not the legitimate ALGON Chairman in Osun State. He is an impostor without legal or electoral basis for his claim. The rule of law must be upheld, and impostors must not be allowed to undermine democratic institutions with reckless, needless propaganda.

We urge the media and the general public to rely only on verified facts and to disregard the self-serving lies of those who were not elected by the people.

In conclusion therefore, we are encouraging the Nulge workers in Osun State to resume work in the interest of the innocent people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.  The LG secretariats in Osun State are safe and conducive for work.
