NAWOJ CHARGED TO LEAD AS WOMEN ARE DESCRIBED AS VIABLE TOOL FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Members of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ and women generally has been described as a viable tool for sustainable development, a pillar of necessity for growth. 

The Parish priest of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osogbo, Reverend Father Pius Odediran made the assertion in his sermon during the thanksgiving service of new executive members of Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Osun Council. 

Father Odediran who opined that the role of women are bane for progress and development of the society at large, stated that their function cannot be under-estimated, he charged the Women Journalists to lead and be good agent of change. The clergyman also said that women are salt of the world and mother of every nation, hence charging them to always preach love, peace and social justice.

In his remarks at the reception programme for the Nawojians, the Host, the Board Chairman Osun Health Insurance Scheme OHIS, Honorable Adeoye Adelakun congratulated the new executives for grace and privilege to serve the union, he used the opportunity to make clarion call to women to make their health a priority, adding that health is wealth. 

The OHIS boss, highlighted that His Excellency, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is passionate about the health of residents of the state, hence ensuring that everyone particularly the vulnerables have good health through access to quality healthcare, he stressed that the concern of the Governor birthed and resulted to the government rehabilitating 322 health care facilities in each ward of the state.

Speaking further, Honorable Adelakun said OHIS agency has actively survived its teething problems, pointed out that it took off at the approval and provision of grant needed with the support of the state Governor, through deductions from staff salaries to care for them and the vulnerable, he added that the equity grant meant as basis for the health care provision fund was also paid by the Federal government to the state.

The Board Chairman who said the government has recorded huge success in the scheme, however charged members of the society especially media practitioners who are the Fourth realm of the estate to avail themselves the opportunity of the healthcare system, he also maintained that Osun State Health Insurance Scheme, OHIS is in line with Governor Gboyega Oyetola determination to provide qualitative health delivery for all and sundry.

In their goodwill messages, leaders and former Chairpersons of NAWOJ, Barrister Mrs Abimbola Babatunde, Barrister Mrs Bukola Aderibigbe, Mrs Sayo Babatunde, Mrs Toyin Adeoye and Mrs Sola Jacobs, stressed that the women led association will not rest on its oars in ensuring that womenfolk in the state have access to timely information on health and other necessitated issues.

Commending Governor Adegboyega Oyetola for giant strides in the health sector and the state in general, they asked for the support of the government on women matters, also asked for more intervention programs, as they also appreciated Hon Adelakun and reiterated the determination of the association to partner with OHIS on their objectives for the benefits of Osun people.

At the reception which featured female journalists from chapels across the state, the NAWOJ leaders called on members of the association to shed more light through mediums, the Osun Health Insurance Scheme OHIS which is affordable and accessible to vulnerables, Persons with Disability among others.

Earlier in her submission, the State Chairperson Osun NAWOJ, Mrs Motunrayo Ayegbayo appreciated God for the opportunity given to her to serve the union for the second term. While thanking the host and all present at the program, she urged her executive members to be active and to make their commitment and dedication important, just as she once again asked for the support of all for successful tenure.

Mrs Motunrayo who harped on the need for every woman especially Osun State NAWOJ to be an agent of change for the betterment of our society at large, she emphasized that women need to take their role as model of homes, society, state and country at large.
