Osun : NIMET warnings, Osun begins clearing and channelisation of waterways

The Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Sola Oladepo has commended the Osun State chapter of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria ALGON for acting swiftly to the prediction of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) which warned that there would be heavy rain between August and November resulting in flooding in some Local Governments in the State of Osun.

Oladepo described the clearing and channelisation of waterways in flood prone areas as a "laudable intervention from the Osun State chapter of ALGON to assist the state government avert the predicted flooding in Osun". The Commissioner added that the list of all flood flash points in each of the cities were already compiled and that the special work shall be handled by Engineers of the affected Local Government while ALGON has involved its Ministry to supervise the work across the affected Local Governments in the State. 

Flagging off the clearing of waterways yesterday in Osogbo, the Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Sola Oladepo and the Special Adviser on Environment, Hon. Rufus Oyegbile led the Permanent Secretary and staff of the department of Engineering Services and Flood Control of the Ministry of Environment and Sanitation on supervision tour to the desilting and channelisation of the Oke-Ijetu stream at Taj-Sadiat area, Osogbo.

They were joined by Hon. Musa Adegoke, Hon. Akeem Olaoye and Hon. Temilade Olokungboye, the chairmen of Osogbo Local Government, Osogbo South LCDA and Osogbo West LCDA respectively.
