• Says Structural Integrity of the Iconic Bridge Remains Intact Despite Attempts to Discredit Oyetola's Legacy Project

The Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council has condemned the purported plan by the Osun State Government to rehabilitate the Olaiya Flyover, constructed by the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, describing the move as another desperate ploy by Governor Ademola Adeleke to siphon public funds and create a slush fund for vote-buying ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

It is becoming increasingly obvious that Governor Adeleke is headed for a resounding defeat at the polls. Public feedback, independent surveys and the mood across the state have consistently shown that the electorate are tired of his administration, having endured his anti-people policies and poor governance.

Faced with the prospect of electoral rejection, the government now appears determined to embark on needless projects simply to create avenues for the diversion of public resources.

Only political hallucinators and those bent on milking the resources of the state to line their pockets would contemplate rehabilitating a flyover that remains structurally sound and has continued to demonstrate its engineering integrity.

Despite the desperate attempts by elements within the Adeleke administration to undermine public confidence in the iconic infrastructure, the Olaiya Flyover has remained safe and fit for use.

Unlike the Adeleke administration, which we have repeatedly criticized for awarding multi-billion-naira road projects to companies whose primary businesses include fertilizer distribution, cyber café operations, fashion design and interior decoration, the administration of Adegboyega Oyetola placed public safety above every other consideration.

The Olaiya Flyover was awarded to a certified and a leading civil engineering firm Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd under the supervision of COREN-certified engineers. The project was executed by one of Nigeria's finest home-grown civil engineering teams, while comprehensive soil and material tests were carried out in one of Africa's leading engineering laboratories. A reputable consulting firm Advanced Engineering Consultants( AEC) also provided professional oversight to ensure that every engineering standard and specification was fully complied with.

Having failed in its campaign to mislead the public and discredit the last APC government, the Adeleke administration now appears determined to drag a landmark infrastructure to the level of its own poor and pitiable record. The people of Osun know the difference between infrastructure built on sound engineering principles and projects conceived merely as conduits for public funds.

Rather than continue its futile campaign to demonize and disparage the Olaiya Flyover---a legacy project that will stand the test of time---the Adeleke administration might as well award the proposed rehabilitation contract to Sowie Tee, the interior decoration company it has patronized before, if that is its preferred approach. That, perhaps, would provide yet another opportunity to generate funds for the vote-buying spree being assembled ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

Governor Adeleke and his officials should, however, remember that public office demands accountability. Those entrusted with the resources of Osun State will, in due course, be required to account for their stewardship before the EFCC and ICPC, and ultimately, before the people whose resources they were elected to manage.
