OLA FC CROWNED CHAMPIONS AS APATA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT ENDS IN GRAND STYLE

The 2026 APATA Football Tournament came to an exciting conclusion at the Baptist Grammar School Playing Ground, Ola, with Ola FC defeating Isoko FC 1–0 to emerge champions before a large and enthusiastic crowd of football lovers, youths, community leaders and supporters from across the area.

The tournament, organised by Ola indigenes resident in Côte d'Ivoire under the leadership of Mr Tijani Baseer Ponmile, popularly known as ANCO, in honour of Osun-based politician and philanthropist, Chief Peter Taiwo Ogundeji, popularly known as APATA, attracted widespread participation and support from within and outside the community.

The competition provided a platform for promoting unity, friendship and youth development through sport, while also showcasing football talents from Ola and neighbouring communities.

The keenly contested final lived up to expectations, with both teams displaying determination, discipline and impressive footballing skills throughout the encounter. 

However, Ola FC's solitary goal proved decisive as they secured a hard-fought victory to claim the championship title amid jubilant celebrations from their supporters.

The grand finale was witnessed by eminent royal fathers from Ola and neighbouring towns, alongside distinguished guests and community stakeholders, whose presence added colour and prestige to the occasion. The playing ground was filled, with spectators cheering passionately from kick-off to the final whistle.

Speaking with newsmen after the match, Chief Peter Taiwo Ogundeji expressed appreciation to the organisers for their commitment, sacrifice and dedication to the success of the tournament, as well as their support for the APATA Movement. 

He noted that the organisers had committed substantial resources to the competition long before he came on board as sponsor, describing their efforts as a clear demonstration of their passion for community development and youth empowerment.

Chief Ogundeji commended the leadership of the organising committee for its vision and perseverance, stressing that sporting initiatives such as the tournament play a vital role in fostering peace, unity and constructive engagement among young people. 

He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting programmes that promote grassroots development and create opportunities for youths to realise their potential.

Many residents and attendees described the turnout as remarkable, noting that the tournament has continued to strengthen social bonds, encourage sportsmanship and provide a positive avenue for youth engagement within the community.

The successful conclusion of the competition further underscored the power of sport as a tool for community development, social cohesion and talent discovery, leaving participants and spectators looking forward to future editions.
