Osun West Youths Advocate Zoning of Senatorial Ticket to Ede, Ejigbo and Egbedore Federal Constituency Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Osun West Progressive Youth Network has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the party’s senatorial ticket for the 2027 general elections to Ede Federal Constituency (E4), citing considerations of equity, electoral strength, and internal party balance.

Speaking at a press conference, the youth coalition said its position followed extensive consultations across the senatorial district and was aimed at promoting fairness, unity, and the long-term success of the party.

The group noted that the current political dynamics within Osun West make a strong case for inclusive distribution of key political positions. It argued that with the party’s governorship candidate emerging from Irewole Federal Constituency, it had become necessary to ensure that other constituencies are fairly represented in the allocation of major elective positions.

“This is not a question of entitlement, but one of strategic balance and sustained cohesion within our party structure,” the group stated, stressing that zoning the senatorial ticket to Ede would foster unity and strengthen the APC’s electoral prospects.

Highlighting the electoral significance of Ede Federal Constituency, the youths pointed out that the constituency boasts the highest number of polling units in Osun West, totaling 450. According to the breakdown presented, Ede North has 126 polling units, Ede South 101, Egbedore 90, and Ejigbo 133, reflecting a strong grassroots presence and mobilization capacity.

Beyond polling strength, the youth network cited recent data from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which shows that Ede Federal Constituency leads in new voter registrations across the district. This, they said, indicates growing political awareness and increased civic participation within the area.

A comparative analysis of registered voters across Osun West further reinforced their position. While Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency accounts for 195,207 registered voters and Ayedire/Iwo/Ola-Oluwa has 164,291, Ede Federal Constituency leads significantly with 253,532 registered voters, making it the largest voting bloc in the district.

“This demographic strength underscores the strategic importance of Ede Federal Constituency in shaping electoral outcomes in Osun West,” the group noted, adding that the constituency has the capacity to deliver substantial votes for the party in both the August 15, 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.

The youth coalition also referenced the history of senatorial representation in the district, pointing out that Iwo Federal Constituency produced Senator Adelere Oriolowo between 2019 and 2023, while Ede last held the position between 2015 and 2017 through the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

It argued that the lack of sustained representation for Ede Federal Constituency in recent years further strengthens the case for rotational fairness and political inclusion.

“In the light of these realities, zoning the senatorial ticket to Ede Federal Constituency represents not only a gesture of fairness but also a strategic step toward strengthening internal harmony and consolidating electoral advantage,” the group said.

The youths appealed to party leaders and stakeholders to give the proposal due consideration, emphasizing that their advocacy was driven by data, equity, and the broader interest of the party.

Reaffirming their commitment to the APC’s success, the Osun West Progressive Youth Network pledged to mobilize support across all federal constituencies in the district to secure victory in the 2027 elections.

The group concluded by reiterating its dedication to progressive ideals, unity, and disciplined political engagement.
