Obokun LG Boss, Maaroof Kayode Ogundipe Presents ₦6.1bn Budget to Council Legislative Arm

The Chairman of Obokun Local Government, Maaroof Kayode Ogundipe, has formally presented a ₦6.1 billion appropriation bill to the Council’s Legislative Arm, describing it as a bold fiscal roadmap designed to deepen development at the grassroots.

Christened the “Budget of Grassroot Rejuvenation,” the 2026 financial proposal is strategically structured to reposition Obokun Local Government as a hub of inclusive growth, social welfare, and people-centered governance.

Presenting the budget before councillors, Ogundipe said the administration’s spending priorities reflect the yearnings of the people and align with broader development aspirations of Osun State.

“This budget is deliberately crafted to rejuvenate our grassroots, restore hope to our youths, strengthen primary healthcare delivery, and unlock the vast agricultural potential of Obokun. It is a people-first budget, anchored on service, equity, and sustainable development,” Ogundipe declared.

Key Priority Areas of the 2026 Budget

According to the chairman, the ₦6.1bn proposal places strong emphasis on the following strategic areas:

- Youth empowerment through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support, and job creation initiatives.

- Primary healthcare delivery, with targeted investments in facilities upgrade and improved access to basic medical services across all wards.

- Agricultural development, aimed at supporting local farmers, boosting food security, and stimulating rural income.

- Grassroot development, including rural infrastructure, community-based projects, and social welfare interventions.

- Welfare of staff: identified as a key cardinal pillar of the budget, with commitments to improved working conditions, motivation, and prompt welfare support for local government employees.

- Adequate security, prioritising the protection of lives and property through strengthened collaboration with security agencies and community safety initiatives.

- Aggressive improvement of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), to enhance the financial autonomy of the local government, expand the revenue base, and ensure sustainable funding for development programmes.

Ogundipe urged the legislative arm to give the budget prompt and favourable consideration, noting that effective collaboration between the executive and legislative arms remains critical to achieving the desired impact.

“Our collective duty is to ensure that this budget is not just passed, but fully implemented in a way that delivers real dividends of democracy to our people,” he added.

Members of the council’s legislative arm assured the chairman of thorough scrutiny and cooperation, describing the proposal as a comprehensive and people-oriented budget capable of accelerating grassroots transformation in Obokun Local Government.
