NULGE Resumption : Osun Youths Progressive Initiative (OYPI) Condemns Osun State Government Over Insensitive Promotion Exercise Announcement
The attention of the Osun Youths Progressive Initiative (OYPI) has been drawn to a circular issued by the Osun State Local Government Service Commission, dated 3rd October, 2025, calling on officers across Local Government Councils to collect their 2025 promotion letters at the Commission headquarters in Osogbo.
While promotion of deserving civil servants should ordinarily be a cause for joy, we find the timing, manner, and spirit of this announcement highly insensitive and disconnected from the realities of Osun workers and citizens. This action taken by the state government of Osun is condemned based on the following premises;
1. Workers’ Welfare Neglected: For years, Osun workers have been battling with irregular salary payments, arrears, and poor working conditions. Announcing promotion letters without first addressing these lingering welfare issues is not only hypocritical but also an attempt to cover up the government’s failure in its primary duty of care to workers.
2. Promotion Without Financial Backing: The circular shamelessly states that the promotion will take financial effect from 1st November, 2025. This is nothing but a political gimmick aimed at deceiving workers ahead of future political calculations. How can a government that has failed to clear backlog arrears now suddenly promise financial upgrades without any clear roadmap for sustainability?
3. Tokenism Over Genuine Reform: This move reflects the usual tokenism of the current administration, prioritizing empty announcements over concrete reforms that would genuinely improve the productivity and morale of local government workers. Promotions without proper funding, and infrastructural support amount to mere paper decorations.
4. Youths and Citizens Left Behind: While the government is busy issuing promotion letters, the teeming youths of Osun State continue to wallow in unemployment, lack of empowerment opportunities, and absence of innovative programs that can truly transform their lives.
As the voice of the young generation and progressive forces in Osun State, we condemn this insensitive circular and call on the state government to:
Prioritize clearing outstanding salaries, pensions, and arrears of workers.
Provide a transparent financial framework showing how the so-called promotions will be sustained.
Focus on genuine reforms that strengthen local government autonomy and service delivery.
Roll out comprehensive empowerment initiatives for youths who form the backbone of Osun’s future.
Osun State deserves leadership that is sincere, empathetic, and forward-looking. Empty gestures and deceptive promotions cannot take us to the promised land.
Signed:
Comrade Olaore Taiwo
Spokesperson,
Osun Youths Progressive Initiative (OYPI)
