FG to establish Fishery/Marine College in Iragbiji— As Aragbiji receives 5-man delegation

Aragbiji of Iragbiji Oba Abdur-Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi  Odundun IV has on Wednesday played host to a 5-man delegation from the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology on an inspection visit with a view to ascertaining the feasibility of establishing a Federal Fishery and Marine College in Iragbiji. 

Addressing the press at Elephant-Fall Earth Dam, Iragbiji, being the proposed site for the location of the college, the leader of the delegation, Dr. Olubiyi Olukayode said their proposal was to have a full-fledged fisheries training college in the community in line with food productivity initiative of the Federal Government. 

"We are here at Iragbiji on the instructions of our CEO and Provost of the College, Dr. Onuoha Chuks, to assess the facilities that are available, so that we can come out with a kind of layout that will eventually lead to a Campus or College that will be established in this community. 

"And from what I have seen, I'm impressed and satisfied that the facilities can carry as many marine-related programmes as we my want to design. 

"Hopefully, once there's no agitation or trouble of land ownership or land grabbing, very soon, everybody will rejoice.

"As a college, we are into training and development of human power. We have about twelve different courses. But since this is not Lagos or marine environment, we will fashion out programmes that are very suitable for this environment", Dr. Olubiyi said.

The leader of the delegation, who is a Senior (Chief) Lecturer at the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology Victoria Island Lagos, assured his hosts that they would witness development in the next couple of months given the appropriateness of the facilities on ground. 

Responding to the delegation's brief on their assessment of available facilities, Oba Olabomi lauded the novel initiative of President Tinubu led federal government with a commendation of the resilience of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy under the honourable Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola's leadership. 

"We appreciate our god-sends over this initiative, and we also thank all the facilitators of this proposed college. 

"We urge this team, the Provost of the College in Lagos, and especially the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to help build roads that will connect the proposed Fisheries College to the new Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies Iragbiji (FUADSI) so that there will be a synergy of purpose for the benefit of all, even beyond this community", Aragbiji said.
