MAY DAY Tragedy: How Adeleke's, NULGE Actions Killed Osun Local Government Administration. By Opeyemi Utility

 

As we mark May Day, a day set aside to celebrate workers' rights and dignity, it is unfortunate that the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke has chosen to undermine the very fabric of local government administration in Osun State.

The actions of Governor Adeleke have been characterized by a blatant disregard for the autonomy of local governments, as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. His administration has consistently interfered with the operations of local governments, strangling their ability to deliver essential services to the people.

Furthermore, Governor Adeleke's administration, in collaboration with NULGE, has shut down local government administration for almost three months, following the Court of Appeal's decision in Akure, which reinstated the Osun APC local government chairmen. This shutdown has brought immense suffering to the people of Osun State, who rely on local governments for essential services.

The people of Osun State are now at the receiving end of Governor Adeleke's selfish and undemocratic actions. We condemn this action and view it as a clear abuse of power and a violation of the rights of the people of Osun State.

We call on Governor Adeleke to reopen the local governments and allow them to function autonomously, as provided for in the Nigerian Constitution. We also call on the people of Osun State to rise and demand an end to this impunity.

Let us stand together and demand that our rights be respected.
