Osun Government's Haphazard Recruitment of Teachers: A Threat to Quality Education. By Opeyemi Utility

 

The recent recruitment of Imole Corps volunteers as teachers in Osun schools without proper evaluation and training has raised serious concerns about the quality of education in the state.

Contrary to Governor Adeleke's promise to engage 5,000 new teachers, the recruitment process has been marred by irregularities, with no aptitude tests, micro-teaching, or oral interviews conducted. Instead, candidates were randomly selected from the pool of PDP faithful who showed interest in the scheme.

This shoddy recruitment process not only undermines the integrity of the teaching profession but also jeopardizes the future of Osun's children. Paying these untrained teachers a meager N20k-30k monthly with no pension package is a clear indication of the government's lack of commitment to quality education.

The Osun government's actions are a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing education and the need for a thorough and transparent recruitment process to ensure that only qualified and competent teachers are employed.

We urge the Osun government to reconsider its approach to teacher recruitment and prioritize the education and future of its citizens.
