EGBEDI INVASION: Confirmation Of Violent Nature Of Adeleke's Administration - Osun APC

 

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the invasion of Egbedi community in Egbedore Local Government Council Area of the state by some political thugs led by one of the numerous Governor Ademola Adeleke's political aides, Oriade Kazeem.

Information has it that scores of the residents of the town which is a few kilometres distance from Osogbo, the state capital, were reportedly injured after the gun-wielding men led by one of the numerous Senior Special Assistants to Governor Adeleke, Oriade, invaded the community over a land and chieftaincy matter dispute.

Last Thursday was indeed a negatively remarkable day in Egbedi as the Adeleke armed thugs who were boasting of immunity from arrest because of their affinity to the governor reportedly laid siege to the town, shooting sporadically into the air and attacking the residents with cutlasses, cudgels and juju.

The helpless Oba Muideen Azeez, the Elegbedi of Egbedi who appealled to the Federal Government for the protection of the lives of his subjects and their property disclosed that the hoodlums attacked Chief Ajiroba, Yisa Abayomi and Prince Abioye while other six of his subjects were receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

We, as a party, felt highly disappointed when we saw a so-called appointee of a governor brandishing gun with impunity and terrorizing them in the name of the governor as he was boasting openly that he was having the government cover for the displaying of the show of shame.

It is appalling, worrisome and crude that an appointee of a government could have the effrontery to be brandishing an instrument of death with which he was terrorizing the people whom his principal took an oath of office to protect during his inauguration as the state governor.

However, we took solace in the overburdened cliche that says that when the head is rotten, there is no way that any part of the body can be in any proper shape.

The pertinent question on the lip of every right-thinking member of the society has been how did Osun State slide into such an abyss of culture of impunity where the cheapest thing in the state under the inglorious administration of Governor Adeleke is extra-judicial killing?

How comfortable are the people thinking for the satellite governor with the constant negative reportage of the state in the news which is sending a discouraging signal to the people outside the state?

What was the business of Oriade with the gun in Egbedi community which is doubtful that he has a licence to operate more so when he is not an accredited statutory security officer licensed to carry a gun?

The shameful incident in Egbedi community has laid credence to our ceaseless petitions both orally and in writing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a net of killers which its slightly over two years' administration in the state has shed the blood of many innocent souls in the pursuit of selfish and rabid collective and personal ambition.

Do we need to look elsewhere for those who were responsible for the cruel killing of the reinstated chairman of Irewole Local Government Council Area of Osun State, Hon Remi Abass, in an attempt to obey the Court of Appeal judgement by resuming to his office and some of the other members of our party who were victims of the PDP striking force few days ago?

Why is it that the hallmark of the embattled Governor Adeleke administration is violence as witnessed recently in Esa-Oke, Ilesa, Halleluyah Town, Iddo-Osun, now Egbedi and many more communities in the state?

The announcement of the state government that it would investigate the Egbedi attacks on the innocent people by the thugs led by one of the aides of Governor Adeleke is a smokescreen designed to sweep the incident under the carpet as no report of such of the government's past pledges has ever seen the light of day.

We want to, once again, remind Governor Adeleke that his constitutional power is within the limit of the protection of the lives and their property and not to subject them to needless attacks and killings.
