Oyetola, Egbetokun, Obi, Aremu, others hail Amitolu at 60..... As rights activist lunches books

 

Osogbo, the capital city of Osun state was agog on Sunday as Nigerians from all walks of life graced the 60th birthday celebration of a renowned human rights activist, Comrade Amitolu Shittu. 

This is just as the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy,  Adegboyega Oyetola; Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Labour Party Presidential Candidate in the 2023 Presidential Election and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi and foremost human rights activist, Comrade Isa Aremu eulogized Amitolu's selflessness, courage and tremendous contributions to the growth and development of democratic ideals in the country.

Six books authored by the celebrant were launched in commemoration of his birthday.

 Addressing the participants at the venue of the event, Adolak Event Centre, Osogbo, Oyetola who was represented by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Bola Oyebamiji described Amitolu as an epitome of character, integrity, honesty and dignity whose existence had uplifted humanity particularly downtrodden and the oppressed.

He applauded the rights activist and security expert for always stand by the truth no matter whose ox is gored as manifested in his genuine rights activism thus far.

"Comrade Amitolu Shittu has proven over the years to be an activist with a difference. In his practice, he remains truthful and committed to people's cause. No doubt, his primary concerns are the people and the truth. His life is fully dedicated to humanity and the pursuit of an egalitarian society", he added.

Inspector General of Police Egbetokun who was represented by Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Abbah, hail Amitolu for always upholding the defense of the people in the society. He commended the rights activist for being resilient, committed and dedicated to human cause against all odds. 

"Amitolu deserves to be celebrated with his achievements in the fight against injustice in the country", Egbetokun added.

Corroborating the gesture, former Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Issa Aremu, applauded Amitolu's tireless efforts in championing democracy and good governance in the country saying his beliefs in a just, sane and egalitarian society second to none.

"At 60th, my very good Comrade brother has left and indelible mark in the sand of time particularly in the Nigeria’s socioeconomic and political landscape", Aremu averred.

Earlier, Peter Obi who was represented by the Coordinator of Obidient Movement, Comrade Yunusa Tanko, described Amitolu as patriotic Nigeria of no equal means and a nationalist par excellence.

"Indeed, Amitolu is embodiment of character, humility, hard work, courage, doggedness and forthrightness whose commitment for unity, progress and selflessness for the betterment of our great nation can not be overemphasized. He is indeed a detribalized Nigerian and lover of the masses", Obi stated.

In their separate remarks, APC chieftain, Chief Shuaibu Oyedokun; Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, Lekan Badmus; former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Adebayo Adeleke and Aare Musulumi of Osogbo, Alhaji Gani Adekunle extolled Amitolu's virtues.
