The achievements records so far in Osun Culture and Tourism Sector by the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola  led administration and under the  supervision of Commissioner for Culture & Tourism  Dr. Adebisi Obawale.

It is not an overstatement that Osun is the bastion of the Yoruba History, Culture and Tradition.

Osun State hosts Ile-Ife, the globally acclaimed source of the Yoruba race. The State Capital Osogbo also has the only UNECO- classified scared groove in Nigeria; the Osun Osogbo, attracting many tourist and faithful annually while many other unique tourist sites and places of cultural heritage abound. 

The administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola is aware of not just the cultural values to the people, but the inherent economic opportunities in this sector. His government takes deliberate actions and measures to unleash the State's economic potential to the world. 

Governor Oyetola's interest efforts since in developing the State's tourism potential has been driven by the sector's dual advantage of boosting revenue as well as creating employment opportunities for the teeming youths in the State. 

The government's efforts since November 2018 have not gone unnoticed, especially by stakeholders and investors. For instance, part of the yield of the Osun Economic and Investment Summit, which was convoked in 2019, was the expression of interest in partnering with the State's tourism Sector by the United States of America, through its consulate in Lagos. 

Osun Tourism Master Plan 

Oyetola launches Osun tourism master plan.

The Governor of the State of Osun, Adegboyega Oyetola, reiterated the administration's determination to transform the economy of the State through huge investment in culture and tourism, saying Osun would soon become the United  Arab Emirate of Nigeria.

He said the administration was determined to provide leadership in domestic and international tourism in the country, adding that workable culture and tourism policies had been incorporated as part of Culture and Tourism for Sustainable Economy agenda.

 

Governor Oyetola made the pledge at the official launch of Osun Tourism Master Plan: Culture and Tourism for Sustainable Economy (CUTOSEC).

In 2020, the Osun Government launched the Osun State Tourism Master Plan for Culture and Tourism for Sustainable Economy ( CUTOSEC) in collaboration with Sterling Bank Plc. and also the Osun Sterling  Tourism Vision 30-30 (OSTOV30-30), Which is short- term agenda in the tourism sector to develop 30 tourist attraction sites on or before the Year 2030.

Facilitation of International Workshop

The State of Osun hosted the 6th Edition of Anglophone Regional Course for the Development of World Heritage Nomination Dossiers, an event organised by UNESCO.

It was a Workshop and tour to sites, with international delegates from more than 20 participating countries. 

Delegates engaged in extensive discussion on the Modus Operandi and Criteria needed by the UNESCO for Enlistment of Cultural sites, as World Heritage Sites. Delegates were later taken round some cultural and natural sites, in the State, when a view to recommending them for UNESCO's consideration as World Heritage Sites.
