Don’t Disobey Party Directives, Akande Warns Senators, Representatives and Hons-Elect
The pioneer national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebisi Akande, has warned senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect on the platform of the APC against joining any group to override the party’s directives.
Akande said in a keynote address he delivered at a seminar for the newly elected APC’s state and national legislators in Osogbo, Osun State capital, that it would be wrong for any lawmaker elected on the platform of the APC to join or form any group to override the decision of their party.
According to him, “Your legacy by so doing belongs to those of the selfish leadership who preoccupied themselves with personal security, personal maintenance, personal protection and personal survival. As time went on, the more powerful and more privileged among them grew into big families and big households and selfishly devised, with cunning methods, ways of arrogating leadership to themselves (as aristocrats, as royal-lords or as kings) with a view to exploiting others to fend for their families, friends and relatives.
Akande, a former governor of Osun State, noted that the political party has the right to control the government elected on its platform, adding that failure to do so would be losing its power and legitimacy to the opposition.
He said, “You are free not to join any political party. You are free to contest as an independent candidate. It is fraudulent, however, for you to join and win election on the platform of a political party and subsequently form another group to override your political party’s’ injunctions.
