TEXT OF BROADCAST BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF OSUN, MR. ADEGBOYEGA OYETOLA, ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2019, TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE ON THE 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS

My Dear Good People of the State of Osun,

I have great pleasure in addressing you this day as we approach the 2019 General Elections.

As you are all aware, we are three days to the Presidential and National Assembly Elections and 17 days to the Governorship and State Assemblies Elections. As our democracy now enters its 20th year, this period of transition calls for sobriety and introspection so that, together, we can build a nation that is the dream of our founding fathers and bequeath an enduring legacy to posterity. In our introspection, we must review not just the last four years but also the 16 years before then.

Election time is a period for us to further strengthen our democracy by voting for the next set of leaders in a free, fair, and credible election. It is a time to choose leaders, who will plan and execute their plans for the next four years. The ultimate goal is to seek leaders who will make our lives better, by spreading happiness to the largest number of people.

We institute good government when we vote according to our conscience and put the right candidates in power. We shall experience the change we want when we say NO to undesirable elements who want to buy our votes and continue to put us in perpetual poverty. We put good government in place when we guard our votes jealously and make them count. We shall eat the good of the land and pass it to our children when we reject violence and embrace peace.

The State of Osun  is a Land of Virtue, a State that proudly exudes the Omoluabi ethos of integrity, love, peaceful coexistence, honesty, tolerance, selflessness and good for all. There can be no better time to demonstrate these Omoluabi qualities than during the forthcoming elections.

Consequently, I appeal to you all to come out en masse to cast your votes, to vote according to your conscience, to defend your votes, to eschew all acts of violence and to embrace peace so that we can consolidate the gains of democracy and witness prosperity and development.

The motto of this great nation is Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress. 2019 Election is another chapter in the achievement of this motto and lofty dream. Let us all demonstrate the Omoluabi traits that we are known for as we resolve to vote peacefully and responsibly as our own contributions to the achievement of the Nigerian Dream.

May God bless Nigeria and grant it a peaceful transition.
