.As the "ayes" have it!

The leadership of the Nigerian Senate has promised to put the passage of the Bill seeking to establish the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies Iragbiji at what it referred to as "speed of light" when the hallowed Chamber sits for the Third Reading of the Establishment Bill.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, Senator Simeon Lalong gave this assurance at the conclusion of the Public Hearing on the establishment of the proposed University at the Senate Complex Abuja, yesterday.

The Chairman said: "Feeding from the society and presentations by stakeholders, it's propelling the Committee to give this Bill accelerated hearing for the Third Reading. I assure you we will do our best.

"But as the custom and tradition of The Senate, we must put the question, 'is there anybody who is against it?'  Otherwise, those who are in favour, say "Aye", and those who are against, say "Nay".

"So, the "Nays" are not here? The "Ayes" have it," adding we are already giving this bill an accelerated hearing, so the bill will continue with an accelerated conclusion."
